“Felix Auger-Aliassime Prevails in All-Montreal Clash”

Published:

Felix Auger-Aliassime emerged victorious in an all-Montreal clash against Gabriel Diallo at the Swiss Indoors in Basel, defeating his fellow Canadian with a scoreline of 6-2, 7-5. Auger-Aliassime, the fifth seed, showcased his dominance with eight aces and breaking Diallo’s serve four times during the match.

Despite Diallo matching Auger-Aliassime’s eight aces, he struggled to win only 35% of his second-serve points. Auger-Aliassime, a two-time Basel champion in 2022 and 2023, now progresses to the Round of 16 where he will face Croatian qualifier Marin Cilic at the ATP 500 event on Thursday.

Joining Auger-Aliassime in the next round is Denis Shapovalov from Richmond Hill, Ontario, who secured a three-set victory over American Marcos Giron on Tuesday. Shapovalov is set to compete against France’s Valentin Royer, whom he defeated at the U.S. Open earlier this year.

In another notable victory, Montreal’s Felix Auger-Aliassime clinched the European Open title by defeating Jiri Lehecka of the Czech Republic in a thrilling match with a score of 7-6(2), 6-7(6), 6-2. This marked Auger-Aliassime’s eighth ATP Tour title, adding to his impressive list of achievements in Brussels.
