Will Dandjinou shone at the Short Track World Tour event in Montreal, securing a total of five speed skating medals over two days and leading the Canadian team. In the mixed relay alongside Danaé Blais, Courtney Sarault, and Félix Roussel, they clinched gold in the 2,000-meter race with a time of 2:37.599, surpassing South Korea and Poland at Maurice Richard Arena.
Later, Dandjinou dominated the men’s 1,000 meters, finishing first with a time of 1:25.417, closely followed by his compatriot Steven Dubois. The duo secured a remarkable 1-2 finish, with South Korea’s Hwang Daeheon taking the bronze.
In the final event, Dandjinou contributed to Canada’s triumph in the men’s 5,000 relay, alongside Maxime Laoun, Dubois, and Roussel. The team clocked in at 6:57.743, outpacing the Netherlands and Italy.
With a total of 10 medals over the weekend and 17 during their two-week homestand, including 10 gold, Canada emerged as the front-runner in the Team Crystal Globe standings. Dandjinou and Sarault hold significant leads in their respective Crystal Globe standings as well.
Sarault impressed in the women’s 500, securing her first podium finish on the World Tour with a strong performance. The Moncton native finished just behind Xandra Velzeboer and ahead of Kristen Santos-Griswold, while Kim Boutin trailed in fifth place.
Looking ahead, Gdansk, Poland, is set to host the next stop on November 20-23, followed by Dordrecht, Netherlands. The world championships will also be held in Montreal in March, shortly after the Olympics. Live streaming options will be available for viewers.
