Simultaneously, the military confirmed conducting an airstrike in the northern part of Gaza, specifically in Beit Lahia, targeting an area where weapons were reportedly stored. Medical personnel reported two casualties resulting from this attack.
According to the Gaza Health Ministry, the casualties from Israeli airstrikes since Tuesday included 46 children and 20 women. The recent killing of an Israeli soldier in Gaza on Tuesday led to heightened tensions, marking the most significant escalation since the ceasefire went into effect on Oct. 10.
Israel attributed the soldier’s death to an attack by gunmen near the “yellow line,” the area where Israeli troops had withdrawn as part of the ceasefire agreement. In contrast, Hamas denied responsibility and affirmed its commitment to upholding the truce.
Israel emphasized its adherence to the ceasefire terms while asserting a resolute stance against any violations that may occur.
In the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza, a tragic incident unfolded as a whole family perished in an airstrike, leaving neighbors mourning the loss of approximately nine family members, including children.
Elsewhere, a man shared his harrowing experience of narrowly escaping an airstrike that claimed the life of his father while seeking refuge in a school in northern Gaza.
Despite the ongoing violence, U.S. President Donald Trump expressed confidence in the durability of the U.S.-supported ceasefire, downplaying concerns about its stability. Displaced Palestinians, however, expressed fears of a potential collapse of the truce amid the continued hostilities.
The ceasefire, established on Oct. 10, aimed to end the tumultuous events following the Oct. 7 attacks, which resulted in significant casualties and hostage situations. Hamas agreed to release living hostages in exchange for Palestinian detainees, while Israel withdrew its forces and ceased hostilities.
Further complications arose regarding the retrieval of human remains, with Hamas facing challenges in locating and delivering all deceased hostages’ bodies. This issue became a pivotal concern in the ceasefire, closely monitored by international observers.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused Hamas of manipulating the return of remains, alleging deceptive actions to create a false impression of compliance with recovery efforts. The Red Cross condemned this alleged fabrication, emphasizing the importance of upholding the agreement and providing closure to affected families.
