Longueuil authorities are in search of the individual responsible for abandoning a newborn baby boy on a doorstep late Sunday at approximately 11 p.m. ET. Reportedly, the individual rang the doorbell before fleeing the scene, prompting the occupants of the residence on Bourgeoys Street to quickly contact 911.
The abandoned newborn was discovered wrapped in a blanket with his umbilical cord still intact, as stated by the authorities. Following the incident, the police and paramedics provided immediate care to the child, who was subsequently transported to the hospital and determined to be in good health.
Mélanie Mercille, the spokesperson for the Service de police de l’agglomération de Longueuil (SPAL), disclosed that the infant was born prematurely at 34 weeks. Responding to tips from the public, investigators conducted searches in Marguerite Bourgeoys Park, situated in close proximity to the location where the newborn was found, resulting in the closure of the park to the public on Monday.
Mercille refrained from revealing the gender of the individual who abandoned the baby, emphasizing the unprecedented nature of the case throughout her 17-year career in law enforcement. Authorities announced plans to conduct a thorough inquiry in the neighborhood on Monday to identify potential eyewitnesses with surveillance footage that could aid in locating the newborn’s parents.
Furthermore, investigative analyses will be undertaken to assist in tracking down the person responsible for leaving the child at the doorstep.
