Cristiano Ronaldo has set a new record with his latest goal in World Cup qualifiers.
The 40-year-old forward scored twice for Portugal in their 2-2 draw against Hungary in Lisbon, becoming the top scorer in World Cup qualifiers.
Ronaldo’s first goal, a close-range strike in the 22nd minute, marked his 40th goal in World Cup qualifying matches, surpassing Carlos Ruiz of Guatemala.
He then netted a second goal in stoppage time of the first half, bringing his total to 41 goals in 50 World Cup qualifiers.
With this feat, Ronaldo has now scored 143 goals in men’s international matches, extending his existing record.
Despite Ronaldo’s performance, Portugal couldn’t secure a World Cup spot as Hungary equalized in stoppage time through Dominik Szoboszlai, leaving the score at 2-2.
Portugal remains at the top of Group F, leading Hungary by five points with two group games remaining.
