Juuse Saros showcased a stellar performance, making 31 saves as the Nashville Predators triumphed 4-1 against the Ottawa Senators on Monday. Ryan O’Reilly’s goal in the third period proved to be the game-winner.
O’Reilly extended the lead to 2-0 with just 5:22 remaining in the final period. The goal was set up after Steven Stamkos’ shot was blocked, leading to a fortuitous bounce that O’Reilly capitalized on for his second goal of the season.
Ridly Greig managed to narrow the deficit with a power-play goal with 2:03 left on the clock. However, Jonathan Marchessault and Cole Smith sealed the victory for the Predators with empty-net goals in the last minute of play.
Marchessault broke the deadlock at 12:11 of the second period by slipping the puck past Linus Ullmark, who made 22 saves, exploiting a turnover near the blue line.
Although Jake Sanderson initially appeared to score for the Senators six minutes into the second period, the goal was disallowed after a lengthy review due to goaltender interference by Tim Stutzle.
In a penalty-heavy first period with seven minor penalties, both teams struggled to find their rhythm. Despite the Senators giving up five power-play goals in their previous two games, the Predators failed to convert on any of their six power-play opportunities.
Ottawa made adjustments to their lineup, welcoming back Tyler Kleven from injury and seeing Jordan Spence and Olle Lycksell make their debut for the Senators. Drake Batherson remained sidelined for a third consecutive game.
Looking ahead, the Senators are set to face the Buffalo Sabres on Wednesday night, while the Predators will take on the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday night.
