Britney Spears, 44, Faces DUI Charges in California

Published:

Britney Spears, aged 44, is facing charges in California for driving under the influence of a combination of drugs and alcohol, according to the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office. The specific types and quantities of substances involved have not been disclosed in the criminal complaint.

The incident occurred on March 4 when Spears was arrested after driving her black BMW recklessly on U.S. 101 near her residence, as reported by the California Highway Patrol. Following her arrest for suspected DUI, she underwent field sobriety tests, was taken into custody, and later released on bail.

Subsequently, Spears voluntarily entered a substance abuse treatment program. A spokesperson described her actions as “completely inexcusable” and emphasized the importance of significant changes in her life going forward.

An arraignment for Spears is scheduled for Monday, but her physical presence in court is not mandatory since it is a misdemeanor offense. The pop icon, known for hits like “Toxic” and “Oops! … I Did It Again,” rose to fame in the 1990s and 2000s, although her personal struggles with mental health and public scrutiny have been well-documented over the years.

After being under a conservatorship managed by her father and legal team for more than a decade, Spears regained control of her personal and financial affairs in 2021. Since then, she has been involved in high-profile relationships, published a successful memoir, and released limited musical content compared to her earlier career.
