The Ukrainian energy minister reported a significant overnight assault on the nation’s energy infrastructure that was still ongoing, marking Russia’s continued efforts to destabilize Ukraine’s energy system before winter. The attack led to power outages across Ukraine, leaving at least 18 individuals injured, according to Kyiv administration head Tymur Tkachenko.
Ukraine’s Energy Ministry stated that repairs were underway where possible, with efforts to restore electricity as quickly as feasible. In a retaliatory move, Ukrainian forces targeted a critical chemical plant in Russia’s Bryansk region. The plant plays a vital role in the Russian military-industrial complex, producing ammunition, explosives, and missile fuel.
Tragedies unfolded in various Ukrainian regions, with casualties reported in multiple locations, including a private house in the village of Pohreby. The attacks caused fires, injuries, and fatalities, prompting rescue operations and widespread damage in residential and public buildings across several cities.
The repercussions extended to the energy sector, with DTEK, Ukraine’s largest private energy operator, reporting extensive damages to an energy facility in the Odesa region. The company highlighted emergency blackouts in Kyiv and Dnipropetrovsk regions, emphasizing the need for security assessments and repair works once conditions permit.
Amidst these events, President Zelenskyy praised a proposed compromise from Trump to halt hostilities at current frontlines. However, doubts persist regarding Putin’s willingness to abide by such an agreement.
