Blue Jays Rested and Ready for ALCS Showdown

Published:

After securing the top seed in the American League, the Toronto Blue Jays have been following a familiar routine of resting, preparing, and performing. This strategy proved successful in the AL Division Series against the New York Yankees, and they are now gearing up to face the Seattle Mariners in the AL Championship Series.

Toronto outfielder Myles Straw expressed confidence in the team’s readiness, attributing their three-day break between games as ideal for staying focused. The Blue Jays earned home-field advantage and a bye past the wild-card round due to their division title, which allowed them time to rest and reset their rotation.

In contrast, the Mariners faced a grueling Game 5 against the Detroit Tigers, which extended to 15 innings and ended late Friday. Despite the emotional series and the travel across the continent, Mariners manager Dan Wilson conveyed optimism and excitement for the upcoming series against the Blue Jays.

For Game 1, Toronto will start Kevin Gausman, who displayed a strong performance in the ALDS. The Mariners will counter with Bryce Miller, who will be pitching on short rest after a previous game. Both teams are strategizing their pitching rotations for the series, with the Blue Jays considering rookie Trey Yesavage for Game 2 and Shane Bieber for Game 3, while the Mariners utilized multiple pitchers in their last game.

This matchup marks Seattle’s first appearance in the ALCS since 2001 and the Blue Jays’ return to the final four of Major League Baseball since 2016. The series schedule includes games in Toronto and Seattle, with the potential for a decisive Game 7 on October 20.

The winner of the ALCS will advance to the World Series to face the National League champion, with the Blue Jays aiming to secure their first Fall Classic victory since 1993.

The Mariners previously swept the Blue Jays at Rogers Centre in the wild-card round in 2022, setting the stage for an intense rematch in the current ALCS.
