The father of a 15-year-old boy who was fatally shot by Longueuil police is seeking answers following the tragic incident on Montreal’s South Shore. Sharif Rezay, the grieving father, expressed his devastation over the loss of his son, Nooran Rezayi, describing him as a beloved and innocent young boy.
Quebec’s police watchdog, the BEI, is conducting an investigation into the shooting, marking an unusual move with a scheduled morning news conference. Witness Johnny Inthisone, who observed the events unfold, criticized the police for swiftly firing two shots at the teenager without much interaction beforehand.
Inthisone recounted the rapid sequence of events, stating that the police arrived, shouted commands, and then discharged their firearms within seconds. He mentioned that Nooran appeared shocked and questioned why he was being shot before collapsing to the ground. Despite police performing CPR on the scene, Nooran was eventually transported to the hospital.
The BEI disclosed preliminary details of the incident, indicating that police responded to a report of armed individuals in a public area and engaged with the group, resulting in one person being shot. Sharif shared his final interactions with his son before the tragedy unfolded, emphasizing the need for justice in the aftermath.
Family and friends of Nooran, who visited the shooting site, emphasized his peaceful nature and mentioned that he was only carrying a school backpack filled with books at the time of the shooting. As a student at André-Laurendeau high school in Longueuil, support services are being arranged for those affected by the loss.
Another witness, Alexandre Girard, described hearing gunshots and witnessing the aftermath of the incident, expressing concern over the tragic outcome involving a student from his community. The BEI’s investigation into the circumstances of the shooting involves a team of investigators supported by the Montreal police.
