“Zellers Revival: New Store Opening Soon at Londonderry Mall”

Published:

A revived version of Zellers is scheduled to open at Londonderry Mall in Edmonton following the transfer of the brand trademarks from the defunct Hudson’s Bay Company to the owner of Fairweather and International Clothiers. Initially planned for a soft launch on Friday, Aug. 29, the opening has been rescheduled to early September, with the space occupying approximately 60,000 square feet, making it the first Zellers store in Canada.

The new Zellers store is expected to offer a range of household goods and clothing for men, women, and children. The location at Londonderry Mall, which previously operated as a Hudson’s Bay store until June 2025, was swiftly transformed into a Zellers store within two months by Leyad, the company owned by landlord Henry Zavriyev.

While Canadian Tire acquired the intellectual property and branding of the insolvent Hudson’s Bay Company, including the slogan “Where the lowest price is the law,” it did not purchase the rights to the name or logo of “Zellers” or related names like “Zeddy’s Cub Club.”

The “new” Zellers store at Londonderry Mall will be operated by Les Ailes de la Mode, represented by president Isaac Benitah, who also oversees Fairweather and International Clothiers. Despite requests for comment, neither Benitah’s lawyer nor representatives of the former Hudson’s Bay Company have responded. The soft launch delay was confirmed by Leyad, the mall owner, with International Clothiers being explicitly mentioned as the company making the decision.
