Britney Spears has recently enrolled in a rehabilitation facility following her arrest last month for suspected driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs. A spokesperson for Spears confirmed that the 44-year-old singer voluntarily admitted herself to the facility. The incident occurred on March 5 when California Highway Patrol officers received a report of a speeding and erratic BMW on U.S. 101 in Ventura County near the Los Angeles County border. Spears, a local resident, underwent field sobriety tests and was subsequently arrested for driving under the influence of a mix of alcohol and drugs before being released from custody a few hours later.
The case was transferred to the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office on March 23, which is expected to determine potential charges against Spears prior to her court appearance scheduled for May 4. A spokesperson referred to Spears’s behavior as “completely unacceptable,” emphasizing the need for significant changes in her life.
Having largely retreated from her music career, Spears has not embarked on a tour in nearly eight years and has not released an album for almost a decade. In 2021, she regained autonomy over her personal and financial decisions following the termination of a conservatorship that had been in place for nearly 14 years. Two years later, Spears published a successful memoir, “The Woman in Me.”
The conservatorship was established shortly after Spears underwent a month-long rehabilitation program in California in 2007.
