A filmmaker and musician from Newfoundland and Labrador, Andrew Strickland, known as Dicky, faced a life-altering accident while working on the TV series “Hudson & Rex.” Falling from a catwalk and fracturing his neck in July, he suffered a complete spinal cord injury, resulting in paralysis from the waist down.
In a social media video, Strickland acknowledged the irreparable nature of his injury, with a slim chance of ever walking again. He recounted the moments leading to the accident, expressing a gap in memory from agreeing to a task to waking up in the hospital. The realization of his permanent condition was emotionally challenging for him.
Struggling with his mental health post-accident, Strickland pondered his new reality and identity. Despite the difficulties, he found solace in his role as a father to his children. Currently undergoing rehabilitation in St. John’s, he reflected on his journey and the impact of his accident on his artistic pursuits.
Strickland’s resilience shines through as he plans to continue creating music and art, adapting to his new circumstances. His friends initiated a fundraiser to support his family during his recovery, which has garnered significant support. With unwavering love for his family propelling him forward, Strickland remains determined to overcome the challenges he faces.
