“Alberta Wildfire Threat Contained, Evacuated Residents Return Home”

Published:

An emergency alert was issued in Alberta on Sunday for a wildfire in Cypress County located west of Irvine, Alta. However, the alert has been lifted as firefighters successfully contained the fire, preventing any damage to residences. Residents of twelve homes who were evacuated have been allowed to return.

The alert, first issued at 12:59 p.m., warned of a wildfire threatening homes south of Highway 1 along Range Road 40 with westerly winds. Range Road 40 in both directions has now reopened at eastbound Highway 1.

Cypress-Medicine Hat MLA, Justin Wright, confirmed that the fire is now under control with no homes destroyed. He commended the collaborative efforts of Cypress County, provincial wildfire response teams, HALO air ambulance, and local emergency responders in containing the fire and preventing a larger disaster.

Despite the situation being under control, firefighters are continuing their work at the site with a focus on responding to any flare-ups or fire growth in the coming days. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, with dry conditions in the area being highlighted as a contributing factor.

Located southeast of Medicine Hat and approximately 330 kilometers southeast of Calgary, the affected area faced significant challenges due to the dry summer conditions.
