In the western sky after sunset, two bright celestial objects that may appear as stars are actually planets: Jupiter and Venus. Over the next few days, these planets will be in close proximity despite being around 670 million kilometers apart.

Venus has been gradually ascending in the sky since early May while Jupiter has been descending towards the west. Venus, the brighter of the two, can be spotted lower on the horizon alongside Jupiter in the west after sunset.

These planetary conjunctions serve as a reminder of the dynamic nature of space, showcasing the movement of celestial objects in our solar system. As Venus approaches Jupiter, it will surpass and rise higher in the sky, with the two planets coming within just over a degree of each other on June 8 and even closer on June 9.
