“Hulu Cancels Buffy the Vampire Slayer Reboot”

Published:

Hulu has decided to cancel the planned reboot of the popular ’90s supernatural series, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, as announced by Sarah Michelle Gellar, the former star of the show. Gellar revealed the news in an Instagram post, stating that Hulu would not be moving forward with the project.

The pilot for the reboot, titled Buffy the Vampire Slayer: New Sunnydale, was filmed by Gellar alongside Ryan Kiera Armstrong, who was cast as the new vampire slayer. The original series, which revolved around a group of young individuals battling vampires and other supernatural entities in the fictional town of Sunnydale, California, was known for breaking traditional television norms.

Cultural critics, reflecting on the show’s 20th anniversary in 2017, highlighted Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s significant impact on television production. The series was praised for its intricate narrative arcs, profound character development, and its exploration of contemporary social issues and tensions.

Gellar expressed gratitude towards Chloe Zhao, the Oscar-winning director enlisted to revive the show, acknowledging the opportunity to reprise her role as Buffy. Despite the cancellation, Gellar reassured fans that her love for the character and appreciation for the audience remain unchanged.

Hulu has not yet responded to CBC News’ request for comment regarding the cancellation of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot.
