The Las Vegas Aces faced unexpected resistance from the Indiana Fever, who had several players sidelined in street clothes. Despite Kelsey Mitchell’s departure due to severe leg cramping during Game 5, the Aces seemed in control until Indiana mounted a comeback effort.

In a hard-fought battle, the Aces secured a 107-98 overtime victory, advancing to the WNBA Finals for the third time in four years. A’ja Wilson and Jackie Young set a historic record as the first teammates to each score over 30 points in a playoff game, with Wilson tallying 35 points and Young adding 32.

After closing the regular season with a 16-game winning streak, the Aces faced tough challenges from Seattle and Indiana in the postseason. Now, they are set to face the Phoenix Mercury in the best-of-seven championship series opener on Friday.

Despite facing numerous injuries, including Mitchell, Caitlin Clark, and Sophie Cunningham, the sixth-seeded Fever displayed remarkable resilience under Coach Stephanie White’s guidance. Mitchell led the team with 15 points before her injury, while six Fever players reached double digits in scoring, including Odyssey Sims with 27 points and Natasha Howard with 16.

The Aces heavily relied on Wilson and Young, with Wilson nearing her playoff career high and Young recording a playoff career-best 10 assists. Chelsea Gray contributed 17 points, including crucial scores in overtime, despite briefly leaving the court with a leg injury.

The Fever continuously challenged the Aces, refusing to back down even after Mitchell’s injury. The game was tied at 84 in the closing seconds of regulation before heading into overtime, where the Aces managed to secure the lead early and maintain it throughout.

Aces Coach Becky Hammon praised the Fever’s resilience, acknowledging the challenges they faced throughout the game. Despite the Fever’s valiant effort, the Aces emerged victorious, crediting their momentum and determination in a hard-fought contest.
