“Search Intensifies for Missing Autistic Boy in Alberta”

Published:

The search for a missing six-year-old autistic child in southwestern Alberta has entered its third day, with responders expanding their search area. Darius Macdougall may have strayed from the initial search zone where crews were focusing their efforts. The boy disappeared on Sunday after not returning from a walk with family members near Island Lake Campground, south of Crowsnest Pass.

A total of 82 searchers and divers from British Columbia and Alberta, equipped with drones, dogs, and ATVs, spent two nights combing the area but have not located the boy from Lethbridge, Alberta. Authorities have stated that they do not suspect foul play but are exploring all possible leads in their investigation.

While local groups have provided assistance, civilians have been urged to refrain from participating in the search due to the challenging terrain. Adam Kennedy of Alberta Search and Rescue emphasized the risks associated with untrained individuals venturing into the search area during a virtual press briefing.

Cpl. Gina Slaney mentioned that the family is deeply distressed and actively involved in the search efforts. Descriptions of Macdougall indicate that he is four feet tall with short brown hair, last seen wearing a blue-grey hoodie and sweatpants.

The search operation is concentrated south of Highway 3 near Island Lake Provincial Recreation Area, where the search teams are continuing their efforts diligently.
