Police in Vancouver have issued a public safety alert regarding a notorious sex offender who has been released from prison and is now residing in the city. Randall Hopley, known for cutting off his monitoring device and escaping during a previous release, was captured in Vancouver after a 10-day manhunt in November 2023. He had been found near the Vancouver Police Department annex. Hopley had served a six-year sentence for abducting a three-year-old child in southeastern British Columbia in 2011 and was released to a halfway house in Vancouver in 2018 under a 10-year supervision order.
Authorities have highlighted that Hopley, now 60 years old, has been granted statutory release after serving two-thirds of his sentence. The Vancouver Police Department emphasized the significant risk he poses to the public and the likelihood of him violating his release terms. Hopley, described as 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighing 150 pounds, is required to adhere to strict conditions, including avoiding locations where children under 16 may be present and refraining from any contact, direct or indirect, with his victims or their families.
A recent photo of Hopley has been released by the police, urging anyone who witnesses him breaching his release conditions to contact 911 immediately. The authorities have stated that there are compelling reasons for the public warning about his potential danger.
