Amidst a major nighttime assault by Russia on Ukraine, at least five civilians lost their lives as drones, missiles, and guided aerial bombs were deployed overnight into Sunday. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy revealed that over 50 ballistic missiles and around 500 drones targeted nine regions in Ukraine. In Lviv, four individuals, including a 15-year-old, perished in a coordinated drone and missile attack, with six others sustaining injuries. The city, known for being a refuge from conflict, faced power outages and a temporary halt in public transport following the strike. Additionally, a business complex in Lviv caught fire, identified as a civilian facility unrelated to Ukraine’s military operations.
Elsewhere, in the Ivano-Frankivsk region, one person was injured, while in Zaporizhzhia, a civilian woman was killed and nine others injured, including a 16-year-old girl, due to a nighttime aerial assault using drones and guided aerial bombs. The attack resulted in the destruction of residential buildings and left thousands of households without power in the area. In Sloviansk, six individuals, including a child, sustained injuries when a Russian guided aerial bomb hit an apartment block, causing extensive damage to residential buildings and other structures.
President Zelenskyy urged Western allies to provide additional air defense systems to counter Russia’s relentless aerial attacks on civilian infrastructure. Ukraine has retaliated against Russia with long-range strikes targeting Moscow’s oil facilities, contributing to fuel shortages in the region. The Kremlin has intensified its assaults on Ukraine’s power grid and railway network in preparation for winter, aiming to disrupt essential services for civilians. The recent escalation in attacks underscores the ongoing conflict between the two nations since Russia’s invasion on February 24, 2022.
