A documentary focusing on the renowned scientist Jane Goodall, created by Science North in Sudbury, has secured four accolades from the Giant Screen Cinema Association (GSCA). Titled “Jane Goodall: Reasons for Hope,” the film chronicles the journeys of the English zoologist and environmentalist as she imparts her optimistic views on the future.
The GSCA recognized the documentary for excelling in various categories, including best film for lifelong learning, best short subject film, best film launch by a theater, and best big idea. Director David Lickley expressed his admiration for Goodall’s influential environmental advocacy and described collaborating with her as an extraordinary experience for the entire team.
Produced in partnership with the Jane Goodall Institute, the Arizona Science Center, and distributed by Cosmic Picture, Science North’s CEO, Ashley Larose, lauded the collective efforts that led to the documentary’s success. Larose emphasized that the awards symbolize the team’s commitment to innovation and their ability to create a production that instills hope and prompts action.
Brenda Tremblay, the movie’s line producer and co-executive producer, shared that since its premiere in May 2023, the film has garnered positive feedback from global audiences. Tremblay highlighted the uplifting and inspirational nature of the documentary, noting that it resonates with viewers by showcasing impactful initiatives and encouraging individual contributions towards positive change.
One notable aspect of the movie’s production, as highlighted by Tremblay, is its commitment to environmental sustainability in alignment with Goodall’s principles. The team ensured a carbon-neutral approach by reducing air travel, utilizing batteries over generators, and compensating for emissions through carbon offsets. Rivian, an electric vehicle company, supported the project by providing eco-friendly transportation for equipment, further reinforcing the documentary’s dedication to environmental consciousness.
