“Record 26 Candidates Vie for Ward 8 Hamilton Council Seat”

Published:

Advanced voting for the Ward 8 Hamilton byelection is underway this week. A staggering 26 contenders are in the running for the city councillor position, setting a new record for the ward. This vacancy arose when John Paul Danko vacated the seat after his election as the Liberal MP for Hamilton West—Ancaster—Dundas back in April.

The pool of candidates is diverse, including former councillors, community advocates, a student, a police officer, and others. Residents of the ward can cast their votes at city hall starting from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. ET on Monday. Additionally, polling stations around the ward will be operational on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Mohawk College’s Fennel Campus, St. Charles Education Centre, Westmount Rec. Centre, Dave Andreychuk Mountain Arena, and Courtyard Marriott.

Election day is scheduled for September 22, with polls open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the same aforementioned locations. For more information on the election, residents can visit the city’s website.
