Maple Leafs Goalie Joseph Woll Takes Leave

Published:

Toronto Maple Leafs goalie Joseph Woll has taken a break from the team to deal with a personal family issue, the organization announced on Tuesday. The Leafs did not disclose any further information regarding when Woll might be back and have requested privacy during this time.

Last season, the 27-year-old shared goaltending duties with Anthony Stolarz, achieving a 27-14-1 record with a .909 save percentage, 2.73 goals-against average, and one shutout. Hailing from Dardenne Prairie, Missouri, Woll stepped in during the playoffs after Stolarz got injured in the series opener against the Florida Panthers, posting an .886 save percentage and 3.56 GAA as the Leafs were eliminated in seven games by the eventual Stanley Cup champions.

Drafted at No. 62 in the 2016 NHL draft, Woll has accumulated a regular-season record of 48-27-2, maintaining a .910 save percentage, 2.74 GAA, and two shutouts. The Leafs are set to kick off their regular season on October 8th when they host the Montreal Canadiens.
