“Saskatoon Police Hearing Probes Officer’s Biker Gang Ties”

Published:

An independent hearing commenced in Saskatoon on Monday to determine the appropriateness of police officers’ friendships. Former Sgt. Robbie Taylor faced dismissal in March due to his association with a man linked to the Hells Angels biker gang. Taylor contested his termination, leading to a hearing with mediator Ronni Nordal overseeing testimonies, including that of Chief Cameron McBride.

Taylor’s attorney, Brian Pfefferle, argued that Taylor was terminated for his connection to an individual allegedly tied to outlaw motorcycle clubs. The Saskatoon Police Service’s lawyer, Ashley Smith, raised concerns about whether Taylor’s “undesirable association” compromised his suitability as a police officer. Chief Cameron McBride cited a loss of trust and confidence in Taylor due to the relationship.

During the hearing, police gang analyst Matthew Matieshin testified about Taylor’s relationship with the biker associate, whose identity remains protected by a publication ban. Matieshin expressed unease about Taylor intervening in a traffic stop involving his friend, who was associated with the Hells Angels. Taylor later disclosed details about his friend’s connections to the biker gang and acknowledged accepting gifts from him.

The hearing is set to continue throughout the week, with further testimonies expected on Tuesday.
