“Fatal Highway Shooting Victim Identified: Tanya Myers, 44”

Published:

Police have now identified the victim of a fatal shooting that occurred on a highway in Saskatchewan last week. The victim was Tanya Myers, a 44-year-old woman, as confirmed by the RCMP during a press conference. Myers, who rarely left her home due to caring for nine cats, was tragically shot while traveling in a Ford Explorer towards Weyburn, Sask., last Friday evening.

The incident took place around 8 p.m. CST, approximately three kilometers northwest of Weyburn, near the Richardson Pioneer and Viterra grain terminals and elevators. The family of Myers expressed shock and grief over the loss, emphasizing the impact her death has had on their lives and the lives of her beloved cats.

According to RCMP investigators, the shooting appeared to be non-targeted, although not necessarily random. It could have been accidental, possibly due to an overshot aimed at an animal or a target. The RCMP’s major crimes unit is actively investigating the case and seeking any relevant security footage from the area.

In a related development, another vehicle traveling on the same highway reported hearing what sounded like rocks hitting their windshield the night before the fatal shooting. Subsequently, the driver discovered a flat tire and upon inspection, it was determined that the tire had been shot. Authorities are urging anyone with information or potential footage from the area to come forward to aid in the investigation.

The RCMP is appealing to the public for assistance in solving this tragic incident, emphasizing the need for closure and justice for the victim and her family. They are encouraging anyone who may have been in the vicinity of Highway 39 and Highway 13 between 7:45 and 8:30 p.m. CST on the night of the shooting to come forward with any relevant information.
