“Montreal’s Île-aux-Tourtes Bridge to Add Fifth Lane”

Published:

On Monday, a fifth lane on the Île-aux-Tourtes Bridge will be accessible to drivers in the Montreal area. To implement this, the bridge will be completely closed from 11:59 p.m. on Friday until 5 a.m. on Monday. During this period, Highway 40 westbound will be closed between Exit 41 and the Saint-Charles Avenue entrance. Access to Senneville Road will still be available for local traffic heading west.

Additionally, there will be a full closure of Highway 40 eastbound between Exit 35 and the entrance at des Anciens-Combattants Boulevard. Drivers should anticipate default closures at the Highway 30 and 40 interchange and are advised to utilize Highways 20 and 30 as alternatives. The toll on Highway 30 will be waived during the weekend.

Following the reopening of the extra lane, dynamic traffic management will be reinstated, providing three out of the five lanes in the direction of traffic flow during peak hours. Starting Monday, commuters heading towards Montreal will have access to three lanes on weekdays from midnight to 10 a.m., while those heading towards Vaudreuil-Dorion will have three lanes open between noon and 10 p.m. on weekdays, weekends, and holidays.

The province will discontinue the rebate for the 10 public transit package in the ABC zones with the imminent availability of the fifth lane. Regular ARTM fares will be in effect from October 1. Temporary parking spaces near the Vaudreuil train station will be phased out, with parking on Boileau Street available until the end of the year and options on Émile-Bouchard Street remaining until further notice.

The replacement of the Île-aux-Tourtes Bridge is necessitated by its age and heavy usage. A new bridge is expected to open gradually by late 2026.
