In Renfrew, Ontario, a man is facing 13 charges related to a sexual assault incident that led to a significant search effort and a shelter-in-place advisory issued by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in the previous month. The incident was reported on August 28 when a woman stated that she had been forcibly confined and sexually assaulted by an acquaintance who was armed with a handgun.
Following the investigation, the OPP revealed that the Ottawa Police Service had apprehended the suspect in Ottawa on Tuesday, subsequently transferring him to the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke. According to OPP spokesperson Bill Dickson, the suspect was known to frequent Ottawa.
The accused individual is now confronting a total of more than a dozen charges, including assault, assault with a weapon, sexual assault, forcible confinement, pointing a firearm, uttering threats, criminal harassment, intimidation, mischief, obstructing a peace officer, and failing to comply with a release order.
Due to privacy concerns for the victim, the identity of the accused cannot be disclosed. The suspect remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court in Pembroke on September 26.
