Canada Soccer is currently seeking clarification following the cancellation notice issued to ticket-holders for the national team’s upcoming Nov. 18 men’s friendly match against Venezuela at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. According to Canada Soccer, the Venezuelan Football Association and the match promoter have indicated that the game is still scheduled to take place and that the cancellation notice from Chase Stadium was premature. However, there is a possibility of a venue change being considered.
In a statement, Canada Soccer expressed their willingness to cooperate with all involved parties and explore solutions that would best support the national team’s preparations for the upcoming World Cup. Concerns have been raised about the potential impact of a venue change on Canadian supporters who have already made travel arrangements.
Both Canada, ranked 28th, and Venezuela, ranked 46th, have previous matches scheduled in the November FIFA window. Canada will host Ecuador, ranked 25th, on Nov. 10 at Toronto’s BMO Field, while Venezuela will face Nigeria, ranked 44th, at Shell Energy Stadium in Houston.
