Two individuals are facing legal charges in connection with what authorities are now categorizing as a deliberate shooting incident that resulted in 23 bullets striking the side of a residence in the Eastview neighborhood of Regina, causing severe injuries to an 11-year-old girl.
Speaking with CBC News recently, the father of the young girl recounted the harrowing events of that August night, describing it as a surreal and frightening experience. For safety reasons, the father’s identity is being kept confidential by CBC News.
According to the father, the incident occurred around 1 a.m. on August 11, while he and his wife were asleep in bed. Gunshots suddenly pierced through the walls of their home, narrowly missing them as they lay in bed.
Detailing the terrifying moments, the father mentioned how one bullet struck the bed frame, another passed through the mattress, and a third whizzed over them. Amidst the chaos, he calmed his panicked wife, urging her to stay put to avoid potential harm.
As they sought refuge, more bullets struck their residence. The father revealed that a total of 23 bullets hit their home that night, with one penetrating his daughter’s bedroom.
The young girl sustained injuries to her side and was swiftly transported to a Regina hospital for urgent medical intervention. Following initial treatment, she was airlifted to Saskatoon for further medical care, including the insertion of a chest tube to address internal injuries.
The father shared that his daughter faced a lengthy recovery process, but once the chest tubes were removed, she demonstrated remarkable progress by resuming walking and returning to school.
A concerned neighbor and family friend named Muhammad Ishaq, who has known the family since 2020, expressed shock over the incident, emphasizing the impact on the local community and the heightened sense of insecurity it has generated.
Recounting the night of the shooting, Ishaq described the distressing sight of emergency responders assisting the injured girl, reflecting on the trauma inflicted on someone so young.
He emphasized the gravity of the situation, particularly the emotional toll on the child, underscoring the community’s collective unease following such a violent event.
In response to the incident, many residents in the neighborhood have opted to install security cameras as a precaution while local authorities continue their investigative efforts.
